Disability Transportation & Parking Services

Parking for persons with disabilities is available at various locations throughout both campuses, most prominently in the Diefendorf Lot (South Campus) and along Putnam Way (North Campus).

Only vehicles having license plates for persons with disabilities, permits issued by a state municipality for persons with disabilities (displayed on the visor, rearview mirror or dashboard) or temporary permits for persons with disabilities (issued through the Office of Disability Services, 25 Capen Hall, 716-645-2608), may utilize designated areas.

Transportation Service Policy For Students With Disabilities

Parking and Transportation Services Services, in conjunction with the Office of Disability Services, schedules shuttle service for students with disabilities. The service is designed to fulfill their on-campus travel needs. A synergistic degree of cooperation between the student, Parking and Transportation Services, the vehicle operators, the teaching staff, and the Office of Disability Services (ODS), is required to maximize the efficiency of this service.

Parking and Transportation Services Services (CPTS) is required to operate in accordance with guidelines of SUNY and New York State regulations. The service is not allowed to make off-campus pick-ups or deliveries. The below listed policy is currently utilized in efforts to provide the most efficient service possible.

  1. Each student is asked to submit a list of pick-up/drop-off times and locations. Ideally, the schedule should be communicated to CPTS soon after the student has confirmed his/her course schedule.
  2. Subsequent to review of the schedule, CPTS will inform the student of feasible pick-up/drop-off times. In instances of conflicting requests the student will be provided with the next available time-slot. While rarely an issue, efforts are made to prioritize service for academic purposes ahead of other service requests.
  3. Students are asked to notify CPTS if/when their need for shuttle service decreases or increases. To be sure the request can be met, twenty-four hour notice is required for additional service requests. Students are free to call the shuttle driver to request additional service changes with less than a twenty-four hour notice. If the driver can accommodate the request within their schedule, the request will be honored. Drivers will make every effort to accommodate requested changes and may have to suggest alternative solutions to the request if they are previously scheduled to serve other customers.
  4. CPTS can not transport students to off-campus sites. In the event that an instructor schedules a class at an off campus location the student will be responsible for being transported there.
  5. Students are required to appear at the designated pick-up location. Drivers are not required to call rooms or look for students inside buildings.
  6. Pick-up locations are required to be on-campus sites. This provides students with a safe shelter, as well as access to telephones in case of a need to communicate with either office while waiting for transportation.
  7. Once the shuttle schedule is established the student is expected to appear on time at the pick-up location. Drivers are asked to depart if the student is not at the pick-up location within (5) five minutes of the scheduled time. This is particularly adhered to if another student is waiting for service. Being late for pick-ups disrupts service for others. Please make every attempt to be on time.
  8. Out of courtesy, students are asked to provide advance notice to CPTS and/or the driver if a pick-up is to be cancelled or delayed. If a pick-up is missed without notice it is the students responsibility to inform CPTS of his/her need for additional service that day.
  9. The standard hours of operation for the university's shuttle service is 7 am to 11 pm Monday to Friday, 8 am to 4 pm on Saturdays and Sundays.
  10. We Care Transportation Inc. will fulfill transportation requests that fall outside of the standard hours of the CPTS motor vehicle operator staff or when an unexpected occurrence happens. Their transportation fleet is maintained at 401 East Amherst Street in the City of Buffalo and they may be reached at 838-0349. Students should contact their dispatcher and advise them of desired pick-up/drop-off areas and times. Requests made without twenty-four (24) hours notice may be subject to delays.

This policy serves to ensure safe and timely inter- and intra-campus transportation for UB students with disabilities. Effective and timely communication between all parties will increase the efficiency of the transportation service.
