Transportation Alert for the end of the semester

Please note special transportation schedules will be in place through the end of the Spring semester:

Ready to Roll: Bicycling at UB - Spring Kickoff 4/17

UB kicks off bicycling season on Thurs. April 17, 2008, with an event designed to encourage this healthy and environmentally friendly transportation alternative.

"Last year was UB’s first official bike-friendly fall, as we rolled out the Bicycling at UB initiative," said Maria Wallace, Director of UB’s Parking & Transportation Services. “This year we hope to expand the bicycling community by registering more bikes and reminding the campus about Buffalo Blue Bikes, bus-bike racks and other services that make biking fun and safe.”

Reminder: Motorcycle & Moped Parking

Motorcycle, moped, motor scooter, and motor bicycle parking is permitted only in spaces designated for "Motorcycles Only." Click here for more information.

2008-2009 Student Parking Permit Registration

Register online beginning April 14, 2008 for your new student parking permit. Visit "My Parking Permit" on MyUB. Current permits are valid through August 31, 2008. Before you begin, you will need to know your vehicle's plate number, make, model and year, as well as your UB person number. (A UB IT name and password are necessary to enter MyUB - Contact 645-3542 for help with your UB IT name or password.) Choose the "mail" option to have your permit delivered by mail before fall semester begins.

Note: online permit registration for faculty and staff begins later in May.

UB Connects North, South, Downtown Campuses

Update: Beginning Monday, February 25, three stops have been added which include Roswell Park, Buffalo General, and Women and Children's hospital. We encourage use of the shuttle by all of our affiliates. Many are in close proximity and will share stop locations, such as COE and HWI. With these additions and our hopes to keep this route effective, the 2nd EOC location at 290 Main St., will be by request only. Shuttle drivers will accept any UB identification or our affiliated organizations' employee badges/ID's.

Effective January 14, 2008, UB will link its three Western New York campuses. UB students, faculty and staff now have a seamless transportation alternative to travel between all three UB campuses. At South Campus, take the Orange Line, which will drop off at the NFTA Allen Street station. There you may either walk to downtown offices or catch the Blue Line Circulator.

The Blue Line Circulator will operate Monday to Friday when University offices are open, and will connect all UB downtown offices including the NYS Center of Excellence in Bioinformatics and Life Sciences, the Research Institute on Additions, the Educational Opportunity Center, the Jacobs Executive Development Center and the Ross Eye Institute. Riders will need to display their UB ID or identification from one of our affiliated sites to board the shuttles.

“With UB 2020’s commitment to growth of our Downtown Campus, we now are piloting a shuttle service that connects South Campus and Downtown Campus, to make it easier for UB students, faculty and staff to get around our three-campus network,” said Maria Wallace, UB’s Director of Parking & Transportation. “Riders have already requested additions to the Blue Line route, and we expect to revisit the route in a few weeks to ensure it meets users’ needs.”

New Service: Downtown Circulator Shuttle

The Blue Line, University at Buffalo's Downtown Circulator Shuttle, is the latest addition to the growing presence of the University in Downtown Buffalo. The Blue Line seamlessly connects UB properties downtown, while also providing a link to the Metro Rail at the NFTA's Allen Medical Campus Station, Monday to Friday when University Offices are open. Parking Permit Pick-up Locations

When you register for your parking permit online you are given options for your pick-up location preference. If you choose the "North Campus" pick-up option, your permit is in the Parking and Transportation Services office, 102 Spaulding Quad, in the Ellicott Complex. The "South Campus" pick-up option is our 104 Harriman Hall office.

The office hours for permit pick-up are 8:30 - 5:00 pm Monday - Friday in 102 Spaulding and 104 Harriman.

Bicycling at UB Kickoff

1. New bike racks on all UB campuses and on each UB Stampede bus. Bringing your bike to campus and finding a safe place for it has never been easier. UB now has bicycle racks to securely store 300+ bikes. In addition, bike racks have been installed to the front of every UB Stampede bus so riders may hop on board and keep their bike with them as they travel. Bike racks are located in the following UB areas:

   • Main Circle
   • Flint Loop
   • Student Union
   • Putnam Way/Academic Spine
   • 7 "Buffalo Blue Bicycle" hubs on all UB campuses (3-North Campus; 3-South Campus; 1-Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus).
3. Bicycle Registration Program
   If you own a bike, UB Parking & Transportation’s bike registration program will deter theft and facilitate recovery if a bike is stolen. Registration is free. Owners of registered bicycles may then be contacted if their bicycle needs to be moved or is found in an unauthorized location.
4. Buffalo Blue Bicycle: Community Bike Lending Program
   A partnership between UB and Buffalo Blue Bicycle (BBB), a community-wide initiative to keep our communities healthy and environmentally sustainable, will now give UB faculty, staff and students access to blue bicycles on all three UB campuses. BBB membership entitles riders to use one of 30 bicycles on UB campuses for up to two days (with the ability to renew). Bikes are accessible from hubs throughout the city. The cost of membership is $25 per season or 6 hours of volunteer service. BBB hubs on UB campuses are located here:

"Bicycling at UB gives students an easy transportation alternative and supports our UB Green initiative by reducing emissions," said Dennis Black, Vice President of Student Affairs. "It gives our community a healthy alternative to driving and eases the parking pressures we experience on campus. As it has at other campuses, we hope the Bicycling at UB program becomes a way of life at UB."

"Programs like ‘Bicycling at UB’ are succeeding at many other universities around the country,” said Maria Wallace, Director of Parking & Transportation Services. “We encourage people to bring their bikes to campus, register them with us, or borrow a bike from Buffalo Blue Bicycle."

"In building quality of life, the bike is the golden fleece," said Justin Booth, Wellness Institute of Greater Buffalo and founder of Buffalo Blue Bicycle. "Cars disconnect us from others, pollute the environment, create unsafe conditions for pedestrians and cyclists, and orchestrate sedentary lifestyles. By choosing to bike, rather than drive, you are making a personal contribution to your own health and that of the environment."

Bicycling at UB is supported by the University at Buffalo’s Division of Student Affairs (including Parking & Transportation Services, University Police, University Residence Halls and Apartments and Wellness Education Services); University Facilities; and UB Green.

UB-Alert 1620 AM Advisory Radio - Event Notification Procedures

Do you have an upcoming event that will impact parking, transportation or vehicular traffic on campus? If so, submit an announcement to the Campus Advisory and Parking Radio Station, UB Alert 1620 AM. http://www.student-affairs.buffalo.edu/parking/radioform. FCC regulations prohibit commercial use of this radio station, however any campus unit or department may request to broadcast a message. Messages will be reviewed, recorded and broadcast at the discretion of the Campus Advisory and Parking Team.
